Mwenge Tea Estate is the largest among the six estates owned by MRUL. It is located in the Kyenjojo District of Western Uganda, four kilometres from Mwenge Central, the headquarters of McLeod Russel Uganda Limited. At an altitude of 1440m above sea level, it is 321km from Entebbe International Airport, 274 km from Kampala, the capital of Uganda, and 18 km off the Kampala-Fort Portal road.

The Estate comprises 2280 hectares, employs about 1600 workers and, last year 2022, produced a total of 6,008,639kgs of made tea. Of this, 2,949,575kgs were produced from Estate leaf and 3,059,064kgs from bought (Out-grower) leaf.

Over the last two years (2018 and 2019), the Mwenge factory was undergoing an expansion from a three-line to a four-line facility. This increased the production capacity of the factory to 6,000,000 kgs (six million kilos) of made tea per year. Additionally, the installation of the continuous chemical and physical withering machine was completed... this has increased the withering capacity of the factory from 100,000kgs of green leaf to 142,000kgs of green leaf per day.

Mwenge estate also manufactures its non-Rainforest Alliance accredited out grower leaf and markets it under the mark RWENZORI.
